Cooler Grate Plates
The performance and wear of cooler grate plates depends mainly on their location in the cooler. There are three main zones: the hot zone, the intermediate zone and the cold zone. In the hot zone there is the high temperatures of clinker which can cause mechanical stresses due to clinker falling from the kiln. There are also thermal stresses which can be due to uneven exposure of the plates to hot material. The solution is to keep it cool. The patented Bar Grate Design gives optimal cooling through an air distribution system. It cools both grates AND clinker giving strong resistance against deformation. FMR61 alloy is helpful against oxidation, corrosion at high temperatures from sulphur and mechanical and thermal stresses.

Advantages of Cooler Grate Plates
Direct contact cooling: Cooling air is introduced through the gaps or holes in the grate plate, and is in direct contact with high-temperature materials (such as clinker and sintered ore). The heat exchange efficiency is high, and the material temperature is quickly reduced (from 1200℃ to below 100℃).
High temperature resistant materials: High chromium cast iron (such as Cr25Ni20), heat-resistant steel and other alloys are used, which can work for a long time in an environment above 1000℃.
Stable transportation: Mobile grate plates (such as reciprocating and push-type) can cooperate to transport materials to avoid accumulation or blockage.
Reduce cooling air volume
Efficient ventilation design reduces fan energy consumption, and some advanced grate plates (such as controlled flow grate plates CFG) can achieve air volume zoning control.

Cools high-temperature sinter (700-1000°C) from sintering machines or grate-rotary kilns to room temperature for transportation and subsequent blast furnace smelting.

Cooler grate plates is a very key component in grate cooler, its cooling effect directly determines the performance and operating efficiency of the grate cooler. Working Principle of Cooler Grate Plates
Clinker Pushing and Cooling
When hot clinker flows from the kiln inlet into the cooler, it lands on the feed end of the grate bed. Driven by a transmission mechanism, the grate bed reciprocates horizontally, spreading the clinker across the entire bed and continuously pushing it forward.
During this pushing process, the clinker exchanges heat with the cool air blown through the grate vents, gradually cooling it. Simultaneously, the reciprocating motion of the grate promotes tumbling and even distribution of the clinker, enhancing the cooling effect.
Hot Air Recovery and Utilization
After heat exchange, the cool air is converted into hot air. A portion of this hot air is introduced into the kiln as secondary or tertiary air to aid coal combustion; another portion is directed to the coal mill to dry the raw coal; and the excess hot air is discharged into the atmosphere through the exhaust chimney.

Maintenance of cooler grate plates
Cleaning Vent Holes
Compressed Air Blowing: Use high-pressure air to clear accumulated material from the grate pores during downtime.
Mechanical Cleaning: Severely clogged areas can be cleared with a steel brush or specialized tools.
Checking Bolt Tightening
Bolts can loosen easily in high-temperature environments. Regularly inspect and retighten them to prevent grate shifting or material leakage.
Replace damaged bolts or gaskets. Heat-resistant alloy bolts (such as A286 stainless steel) are recommended.
Replacing Worn Grate Plates
Single-Piece Replacement: The modular design allows replacement of damaged grate plates without disassembling the entire system.
Replacement Criteria: Replace grate plates when wear drops below 60% of their original thickness or when through-cracks develop.
